In 2011, Russian historian and linguist Anatoly Moskvin was arrested in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, for digging up the bodies of 29 girls and young women and keeping their bodies in his apartment. Moskvin stuffed the girls’ chest cavities with toys, clocks, and music boxes; he dressed them up as life-size dolls and held tea parties with them.
THE BEAR LOVES HONEY is White Flag’s imagining of Moskvin’s process from the perspective of the dead girls. The play follows one girl from her exhumation to her first ‘birthday’ as a member of her strange new community.
